Cradle for Babies!
In Tamil Nadu (TN), we use a saree (usually white) to put the little babies and tie it to a hook in the ceiling and start swinging. Hook's are always available in 90% of the homes in TN. Builders always keep in mind to keep one even in the newly constructed houses. The babies enjoy themselves when we start swinging but not the mothers :). It's too difficult for mothers to swing as they grow older. But things are slowly changing over the past few years that some mothers try to get rid of this swing within a year and some don't used it at all.
Akil in Saree Swing |
He
will want us to swing for hours together and we could stop it only when
he 2.5 year old. When I conceived for 2nd one, I made up my mind not to
got for this. We even purchased one from the stores but it didn't serve the purpose much. Rest in stores were too expensive which
I thought was not worth spending.

Cradle from Gujarat! |
But after a month of Arnav's entry, one of my best Gujarati friend parceled me a cradle that is traditionally used in Gujarat. Baby gets the happiness of swinging and mothers/ care takers can swing while at kitchen or while lying down. There is a string attached to it which can be pulled to the kitchen or to wherever we are in need of. These are inexpensive for the value they provide. I wonder if it gives the coziness of the saree for the babies but without doubt, this is a big boon for mothers :)
Put them in, and just swing and swing. This is Great fun for them.
