Nutritious Powder (Sathu Maavu) -- for babies -- Recipe

Usually nutritious powder is prepared with lot of ingredients but all those ingredients cannot be easily digested by babies less than a year. Here is the list which was given by my pediatrician and found it to be very useful.

Ingredients:

Finger Millet (Ragi or Kezhvaragu) - 1 cup
Cattail or Pearl Millet (Kambu or Bajra) - 1 cup
Wheat Rawa (Sooji or Semolina) - 1 cup
Green Gram dhal (Pachai Parupu/Pasi Parupu/Payatham Parupu) - 1 cup
Cashew nut - 1/4 cup
Badam - 1/4 cup
Ground Nut - 1/4 cup
Roasted split Chickpeas (Pottu kadalai) -1/4 cup

Fry each of the ingredients separately in stove and grind them nicely to powder. There shouldn't be any grains and it should be a nice powder. Store this nutritious powder in an air-tight container.

Everyday morning, add 150 ml of water and boil it for sometime.
To this, add 1 tablespoon of this nutritious powder and 1 teaspoon sugar and stir nicely in low flame, maybe for 15 minutes. This powder will boil and thicken. Switch off the stove.
Give this mix to babies and they really love this. I started giving it after akil completed 6 months. Many of my friends also tried this recipe and found it to be really good.

  2. Hi,
how long does the powder stay good?
does it need to be refrigerated?

  3. It can be refrigerated in an airtight container. Moisture or water shouldn't get in. It will stay for more than a year.
