Good Pediatrician in Bangalore

Our search for a good pediatrician is quite a long story. For the first seven months, Akil & I were at native and we chose Dr.Chinnasamy at Gobichettipalayam who was good. It suited our needs to a great extent.

But choosing a good pediatrician in Bangalore was too challenging. In less than two years, we have visited multiple doctors. We were staying close to Bannerghatta road and with suggestions by friends around, we chose a doctor. He was quite old. He puts the injections and vaccines to kids in a forced manner. Also, he suggests too many medicines and the hospital was also not well organised.

We shifted our home to Koramangala and hence changed the doctor also. Akil was born in St.John's hospital and we were too satisfied with our doctor and gynaecology department there. With that experience, we finalised on meeting a good pediatrician here. Felt the doctors to be not so hygenic. Treatment was also not great. Heard from a friend that they had met some other doctor in the same hospital and their experience was even more bad. Overall, pediatrician department at St. John's is not good.

Then with the experience of a known friend, we went to Dr. Natarajan who has a clinic of his own named "Anand Clinic" in Koramangala. Akil was often falling sick due to his day care and our visit to this doctor was also frequent. He suggested us a tonic to give to Akil for good appetite. The tonic name is "Oraxin". We gave this tonic for about 10 days and Akil's health worsened that on the 10th day till 1 PM, he never woke up, never cried and did nothing.

I have heard from my friends about Dr.Aravind Shenoy who is supposed to be the best in Bangalore. But getting his appointment is not an easy job. With his name in mind, we rushed to Manipal hospital and Akil was admitted in the hospital for 2 days and was given drips. Here is when we came to know that this tonic "Oraxin" should be totally kept away from kids. How can pediatricians suggest tonic's that are so sensitive? We should always give medicines which has "For Pediatric Use" lable. I actually questioned this to Dr. N but he said nothing will happen. Maybe it doesn't bother few kids. This medicine put Akil to a horrible situation.

Experience with Dr. Aravind Shenoy was just too good. He has a clinic on his own named "Perinatal Clinic" at Domlur. This clinic is well managed with experienced staff's and good assistant doctor's. As soon as we step in, the height and weight of baby is taken and we are asked to wait and the wait time is not huge. Well organised! But one has to literally fight with the nurses there to get his appointment. One of his assistant doctor was named Dr. Meena and we visited her once as we couldn't get his appointment. She is good. We thought that our hunt for doctor is over as waiting time is not much and she was just the kind of doctor we wanted. To our bad luck, Dr. Aravind Shenoy has quit from Manipal and has joined "Cloud Nine" hospital. He has also shut his Perinatal clinic and whole of this team moved to "cloud nine". This hospital is too crowded that a friend of mine had to wait for solid 3 hours to meet Dr. Meena. Also, as the hospital is opened newly, heard that the records are still not maintained well and there was a mess. Maybe, they will rectify it as days go by.

In my apartment, most of them suggest Dr. Jagadeesh Chinnappa who stays close to our apartment at Koramangala. He is quite famous and visited him once. He was good. Answers all the questions we ask but not too friendly like Dr. Aravind Shenoy. Last time, when we had gone for a visit, he was not available, and so we decided to meet his better half Dr. Aruna Jagadeesh. She was too sweet. The moment we entered, she welcomed Akil with a warm smile and tested him from ears, eyes, throat to chest well. She never suggests medicines until there is a high fever or heavy cold. Here also, they checked weight and height of Akil. She patiently listens to our queries and gives a detailed description. She strictly says "no" to antibiotics and asks us to give Crocin or Calpol only if the temperature is beyond 100 degrees. I felt her to be even better than Dr. Jagadeesh Chinnappa.

I hope we have now found a good pediatrician - Dr.Aruna Jagadeesh! Hope all goes well in our meetings with her.

  4. We were happy with both Dr Aruna Jagadeesh and Dr Jagadeesh Chinappa. Dr Arvind Shenoy is the best but getting his appointment was difficult. We moved out of Bangalore a year back. I am not sure how it is now. Hope this helps!
